NC student forum to focus on youth unemployment

Youth unemployment around the world will be the focus on April 17 as students from Niagara College’s Bachelor of Applied Business: International Commerce and Global Development program gather for their 7th Annual Student Forum.

About 200 students in the program will participate in the event which is expected to draw students faculty and the community.

The event will be held in the Yerich Auditorium at the College’s Niagara on the Lake Campus from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The forum will kick off with a keynote speech by Niagara College president Dan Patterson and will break off into four parallel sessions about various aspects of youth unemployment.

NC students – from first-year to fourth-year students in the program – are involved in almost every aspect of the forum from planning and organizing to speaking and debating.

“The forum is a course-based project that complements their classroom learning” said Dawit Eshetu coordinator Bachelor of Applied Business: International Commerce and Global Development who noted that students in the program take four global development stream courses that deal with global issues policies and strategies. “It is hoped that students get a better understanding through their research presentation and debate leading to the forum.”

This is the seventh year for the annual forum focusing on global issues. Themes covered in the past have included the environment poverty and inequality and the financial crisis.
