Niagara College is subject to Ontario’s (FIPPA) which came into effect on January 1, 1988. This provincial legislation has two purposes:
- to provide individuals with a right of access to certain information held by the college
- to give individuals a right of access to their own personal information while establishing standards to ensure that this information is protected
The enforcement of this Act is conducted through the office of the (IPC).
FIPPA also outlines the college’s obligations regarding the collection, use, disclosure, retention, and disposal of all personal information held in its custody, as well as the regulations surrounding the access of an individual to their own personal records. The College regards all personal information as confidential, and undertakes to protect the privacy of both staff and students.
The purpose of this web section is to inform the staff and students of Niagara College, as well as the public, of the operational impact of FIPPA, and to provide an overview of the rights and responsibilities of individuals in maintaining compliance with the Act.
