Carolyn Hurst

Carolyn has 30 years of Entrepreneurial Business experience. She has created and run several successful start-up companies and has extensive transformation consulting and Information Technology Operations Management experience in large global companies. She has worked with a broad range of private sector and public sector clients in the areas of IT risk, Cyber Security and Regulatory Compliance. She has also focused in the areas of Innovation and Business Transformation, IT Strategy and Planning, IT Governance, Effectiveness and Organizational Alignment. She has worked with Cyber Security software firms on both internal and external threat analysis. Carolyn has a broad and deep understanding and competence in all business domains, but her driving focus has always been the innovative business application of technology. She has the ability to communicate complicated IT concepts in the language of business. She has been on the forefront of digital innovation and technology disruption throughout her career.

Her early years in career positions in Project Management and Project Executive roles on complex information technology systems implementations provided for deep understanding of project risk. Using her strong program management, analytical and communication skills, she is able to build effective teams. Her positions in managing multi-million dollar outsourced business application support and infrastructure programs have provided her with knowledge of the detailed requirements to deliver to mission critical service levels and to manage complex vendor environments.

Carolyn’s experience working with Board of Directors, CEOs, Deputy Ministers, and Executive Management has provided her with a unique understanding of the strategic decisions necessary to manage risk, make investments and allocate resources. She has led many Independent Project Reviews of multi-million dollar projects and applied her wisdom to develop risk mitigation recommendations to executive stakeholders. She has experience with every aspect of contracting and delivering IT enabled business transformations. Carolyn’s experience spans several global business sectors including: financial institutions, large public sector organizations, retail companies, automotive manufacturing companies, publishing companies, and software companies.

Carolyn currently owns a boutique consulting firm where she works with clients in the area of Innovation, Strategy, Planning and Performance Improvement. Prior to her work as an independent consultant she was a Vice President with Capgemini, a global leader in digital transformation. She headed the Capgemini North American Technology Leadership Council for Capgemini and was also a member of the Capgemini Global Technology Strategy Council. She was responsible for client engagement and delivery oversight of all Application Development and Integration projects within Canada. She was responsible for building multi-national teams for all aspects of project engagement, delivery and support. She headed the Canadian Public Sector Practice and was a member of the Capgemini Global Public Sector Practice.

Carolyn also created and currently owns a vineyard and winery in the Niagara region with her husband. As a small business owner operating in one of the most regulated industries in Canada, she is engaged in the frontier of digital marketing, e-commerce, direct to consumer, cyber security and payment processing.
