About the CPA Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification

The Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) offers the only payroll certifications in Canada: the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP). This program prepares payroll practitioners to manage the compliance requirements of an organization’s annual payroll cycle, deliver clear and reliable payroll information, and contribute a payroll perspective to organizational policy and strategy discussions.

This certification is the foundation of your career in payroll. It will provide you with the compliance knowledge required to process an organization’s annual payroll cycle, effectively communicate payroll information to all stakeholders, and understand the accounting function as it relates to payroll.

Prerequisites may be required for these courses. Please refer to individual course descriptions for specific requirements.

In order to receive equivalency from CPA, courses must be completed with a minimum grade of 65%. (Note: All transfer credit courses finished prior to January 1, 2013 must have a minimum grade of 60%.)

Note: ACCT1701 – Financial Accounting I has been added as an online course option.

Important information about completing this program:
  • Students must register with The Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) prior to taking any of the CPA designated courses – CEHR 1015; CEHR 1025; CEHR 1035. Visit or call 1-800-387-4693 for more information.
  • Students wishing to apply for CPA designation must take all courses in class.
  • Registration forms complete with payment must be submitted to the CPA no later than 10 business days prior to the course start date, to ensure the timely delivery of printed course material and access to the online material. For all registrations processed by this deadline, the printed course material will be shipped to your preferred mailing address by FedEx (a tracking number will be emailed to you) and an access code to the online material will be emailed to your preferred e-mail address, 1 business day prior to the course start date.

The tuition fee payable to Niagara College for in-class courses CEHR1015, CEHR1025 and CEHR1035 does not include the CPA material, exam and CPA membership fees. In addition to the tuition fee paid to Niagara College, students are also responsible for the following CPA fees:

  • materials and exam fee of $340 (PCP) or $400 (CPM) per course
  • membership fee $200 for one year
